She suggested that this method is suitable for avocados that have already been opened, by helping to seal the peel, which reduces the amount of oxygen that can reach the fruit.

Adding a thin layer of oil to sliced or opened avocados helps to preserve their moisture content, which reduces the likelihood of spoilage and decay.

To maintain the avocado’s freshness, brush it with olive oil, wrap it in plastic wrap, and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This method can extend its shelf life by up to a week compared to regular refrigeration

Following these steps ensures the preservation of the fruit’s appealing flavor and appearance by minimizing the exposure to air, ultimately extending its freshness and green color.

However, if you have purchased a whole avocado, avoid rubbing it with olive oil before opening, as it should be allowed to ripen at room temperature first.
